Shower Curtains and Screens, a Showering Solution at a Fraction of the Cost

Adding a shower to your existing bath provides you with a cheaper showering solution than redesigning your current en suite, or where you don’t have an en suite, a cheaper solution than building one from scratch. A shower bath simply takes your existing bath and adds a shower to it and either a shower curtain or bath screen to stop the floor getting wet. In most cases you would either add an electric shower or install a bath shower mixer tap, depending on your current central heating system. Not only does this option provide a cheap method of creating a new shower environment, and reduce congestion of a morning, you still have the ability to inject your own design and flair into the products as with any other bathroom product.

Shower curtains offer an affordable way to add colour and flair to your current bathroom. Besides the aesthetics, shower curtains have the practical function of preventing water spraying out of the bath and soaking the surrounding bathroom fixtures. Curtains are very easy to install, using rings or hooks to suspend it from a shower rail. Spring loaded rails can be held in place between two walls without the need for drilling holes in your tiles, which is particularly useful if your shower curtain remains a temporary solution until a bath screen or shower enclosure is fitted.

Shower curtains are made from an array of washable fabrics, including cotton, polyester and plastic. Whilst most are water resistant, a waterproofed liner can always be attached for a greater amount of protection. Although curtains are not as secure as bath screens or even shower enclosures, curtains can be very effective with electric showers, though the force of water from power showers may be too strong for a fabric curtain to prevent leaks, where you may need to look at bath screens or even a full enclosure to prevent flooding.

Bath screens provide a more rigid structure to the bath and come in an array of shapes and styles, meaning there will be something that will match your current bathroom and your own personal taste. A bath screen can be a solid piece of glass coming in a variety of shapes, from a solid rectangle to a sail shape, not to mention whether or not you opt for a. As with every other element of the bathroom it is important to maximise the space you have which is why many bath screens now come with integrated shelving so you will always have a place for your soap. These styles of bath screens simply open outwards allowing easy access to the shower though do rely on adequate space for the opening. For those where space poses a problem there are a number of 2 fold and 4 fold options that act as a concertina effect being pushed up against the back wall when not in use and therefore allowing full access to the bath at all times.

In all, adding a shower to your existing bath is a cheap and practical showering option and combined with the fact that you can choose from an array of stylish shower curtains and bath screens you can be sure that your own design and flair will not be compromised.
